Personality
Equally the Lingering Volition is truly an inanimate object, information technology cannot feel or possess a personality of its own. Since it was brought to life by Terra'due south discarded thoughts and emotions, notwithstanding, information technology is able to "feel" a strong hatred towards Xehanort, a close connectedness and devotion to Aqua and Ventus, and a familiarity with Riku and Sora.
Physical Appearance
The Lingering Will is an animated suit of armor. The helmet is mostly gilded, except for the visor, which is black, and it sports two blood-red prongs, one on either side of the helmet, that signal straight up. The arms, legs, and ribs of the armor are black and have orange patterns decorating them. Its knee guards, gauntlets, breast plate, and armored boots are gold, and at that place are other, smaller pieces of golden armor on its legs.
Information technology wears black pauldrons with gold edges. The forepart of the armor on the Lingering Will's trunk is red, as are small pieces of armor on its lower legs and gauntlets. It likewise wears gilt anklets with red spikes on the back that curve upwardly sharply.
In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, The Lingering Will's armor seems to be much darker in coloration, either considering of the lack of lite in the Keyblade Graveyard, or that the long period of time information technology spent there simply faded the armor.
It also wears a cape that is gold on the outside and black on the within. However, this cape was removed from the design for Kingdom Hearts Nascence by Slumber, to avoid lagging issues.[1]
As information technology is Terra'south discarded armor, the Lingering Will uses his main Keyblade, Ends of the Earth, in all of its appearances. When the Will is created in Kingdom Hearts Nascency by Sleep, its Keyblade changes to the Ends of the Globe regardless of the Keyblade Terra was using prior to that point.
At the end of Terra's scenario in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, the Lingering Will briefly talks with Terra's voice, yet in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, it appears to communicate with Sora by using metallic sounds, which Sora, Donald, and Goofy empathize perfectly well, perhaps due to not having Terra's voice thespian at the time.
History
Birth by Sleep
The Lingering Will rises to fight Terra-Xehanort.
Just as Master Xehanort possesses Terra's body and transforms him into the new Xehanort, Terra'due south powerful thoughts and wishes were able to find residence in his discarded armor and brings it to life as the Lingering Will. The Lingering Will, determined to stop Master Xehanort at all costs, creates a behemothic force field, the Will's Muzzle, to trap Terra-Xehanort. Angered by Terra's defiance, Terra-Xehanort engages the Lingering Will in boxing.
In the end, the Lingering Volition emerges victorious, knocking Terra-Xehanort unconscious. The armored figure then thrusts its Keyblade into the ground, kneeling down. Presently after, Terra-Xehanort is consumed by an immense sphere of light, the result of Aqua and Ventus destroying the χ-blade following Vanitas's own devastation. The clouds overhead then cover Kingdom Hearts, disappearing above, leaving the Lingering Volition to remain lonely in the Keyblade Graveyard, silently promising to Aqua and Ven that someday, it will prepare things right.
Kingdom Hearts Two Last Mix
Eleven years afterwards, a portal to the Badlands in the Keyblade Graveyard mysteriously appears in Disney Castle. Sora, Donald, and Goofy proceed to enter the portal and detect the Lingering Will in the same position equally it had been left in. It mentions Aqua, Ventus, and the Keyblade. It then mistakes Sora as "the 1 he had chosen"; realizing its fault, it asks why he isn't "him".
Then information technology wonders if Sora is Xehanort, slowly pronouncing the latter's name, before finally ascent up every bit it did once before to set on him. Sora fights dorsum and wins the battle, and the Lingering Volition just kneels downwardly again later on this, saying that he once felt the ability Sora possessed. Sora tin can return for rematches confronting the Will, which agrees to fight, merely information technology is unknown if the subsequent rematches are catechism.
Kingdom Hearts 3
As Terra-Xehanort confronts the 7 Guardians of Light right after they get in at the Keyblade Graveyard, the Lingering Will arrives unexpectedly after existence discovered and tipped off by Naminé while in The Final Globe, engaging Xehanort in battle. The visible confrontation is curt, every bit a massive number of Heartless and Nobodies arrive at the scene, forcing the Seven Guardians to focus instead on the newcomers.
The fight between the two eventually ends up below the real Organization'due south base in the badlands, where the Lingering Will proclaims that Terra-Xehanort must be stopped at all costs. Notwithstanding, Terra-Xehanort summons the Dark Figure shortly into their continued battle, who grabs the Lingering Will by the helmet and begins to crevice it. Nonetheless, Sora, who was time-traveling from the events afterward the Keyblade State of war in search of Kairi, appears from a pool of light below the two, forcing the Dark Figure to dematerialize while freeing the Lingering Will. Once Sora reveals he wasn't the only ane with the power to travel through time, he engages Terra-Xehanort in a short boxing, though Terra-Xehanort in one case again summons the Dark Figure, this time behind Sora in social club to subdue him. Every bit Terra-Xehanort readies a finishing blow to the head with his Keyblade, the Lingering Will jumps in the way and pushes Sora asides, causing it to instead take the fatal blow as its helmet shatters, causing it to fall apart completely as the discarded armor pieces fade away.
With the Lingering Will'due south destruction, it would allow Terra to reclaim his original Keyblade and armor one time he regained command of his body from Xehanort.
Abilities
Fighting style
The Lingering Will, similar Kingdom Hearts Two Final Mix's other secret bosses, is hard to defeat; its most basic moves are attacking with its Keyblade, Ends of the Globe, using a combo attack almost identical to Sora's, though it instead turns its Keyblade into a drill-like object for the forward thrust combo finisher, and can fly at very high speeds. Its master abilities are transforming its Keyblade into diverse attacking forms.
It can turn information technology into a whip that does less damage than the blade grade, simply its greater speed and range makes up for it. In improver, the Lingering Will can also use Terra's Ultima Cannon Shotlock as an set on. Sora, however, can deflect this back to the Lingering Volition, which leaves it very vulnerable. The Lingering Will can as well transform its Keyblade into a Keyblade Glider that lets information technology fly extremely fast, and a cog-like object that spins around so fast that if Sora gets hit by it once, so the remainder of the hits will also hitting Sora.
The Lingering Will tin also conjure a ritual-like assail. In this attack, the Lingering Will enters a berserk-similar country, similar to Saïx'due south Berserk technique. Its arm gauntlets and helmet volition emit a brilliant crimson aura, and it and so can divide its Keyblade into ii weapons. This, when added with its combos, makes it extremely lethal.
In this attack, the Lingering Volition is only vulnerable after completing an attack or after deflecting the cannon-formed Keyblade'due south shot back at it. Whatever other time that yous attack information technology, the attack will be nullified. While in the berserk-similar state, the last few attacks of the Will's rapid combo tin be blocked by Sora regularly, although information technology would take evading the first two slashes before it warps away and very precise timing.
In add-on to its Keyblade, the Lingering Will has some magical abilities. It can besides create an unusual looking seal that either creates an orange or bluish orb. An orangish orb causes Sora to be unable to assault and a blue orb prevents Sora from using magic or items. Information technology tin also utilize some magic; for example, when the Lingering Will is doing a Sonic Blade-like assail while low on HP or attacking with its Keyblade Glider, it sometimes will apply Blizzaga. Also, when information technology turns its Keyblade into a glider and rides it, if Sora is too far from it, information technology volition sometimes use Magnega that does some damage, and will pull Sora into its path.
The Lingering Will can also conjure drone-like objects which fire beams of plasma at Sora and his political party. A peculiarly deadly attack consists of trapping Sora in a triangular-shaped seal that drains his wellness at a very fast rate, similar to an attack used by Xemnas, only much more than powerful. Only a "Suspension Gratuitous" command on Sora's command list can salvage him from it. If the player chooses the wrong command while he is trapped, and then Sora will immediately dice, even with Over again and Second Chance equipped.
Interestingly, when it strikes Sora with its Keyblade(s), most of its combos resemble Sora'southward combos, most notably the Valor Form and Concluding Class combos. It should exist noted that all of the Lingering Will'due south attacks tin be blocked or evaded with precise blocking, Reflega magic, Curaga magic with the Leaf Veil power equipped, or Drive Form transformations if timed correct. A recommended way to evade attacks is to activate Limits when Donald and Goofy are near, preferably Donald's every bit they tin last longer.
When playing as the Lingering Will during the terminal battle with Xehanort at the Keyblade Graveyard in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, it loses Terra's ability to use D-Links; the D-Link Judge will be empty with no way to refill it. Retaining Terra's immense power, the Lingering Volition has access to whatsoever abilities equipped before the boxing begins, including all Shotlocks, and Deck Commands. While Terra was able to wield whichever Keyblade the player equipped, the Lingering Volition's weapon is preset equally the Ends of the Globe.
Weapon
The Ends of the Earth, once wielded by Terra.
When the new Xehanort was built-in, he sacrificed both Terra's armor and the Ends of the Earth Keyblade for Master Xehanort's old weapon. Because a part of Terra resided within the Lingering Will, it was able to wield the Ends of the Earth to conquer Xehanort. The Ends of the Globe would so remain with the Lingering Volition in its confinement at the Keyblade Graveyard; the animated armor would use the Keyblade a second time to battle Sora eleven years later.
The Lingering Will is a very capable Keyblade wielder, able to morph the Ends of the World into several different forms. It shares Terra'south ability to summon a Keyblade Glider, using what was in one case a form of transportation for the hero as an offensive technique. Other forms the Ends of the Globe may take through the Lingering Volition's influence include a concatenation whip, the massive cannon-like class used in Terra's Ultima Cannon Shotlock, a drilling gauntlet, and a harken-like weapon.
Save for the Keyblade Glider and Ultima Cannon, these forms were each unique to the Ends of the Earth when wielded past the Lingering Will. The armor also holds the weapon in a different manner in Kingdom Hearts II Concluding Mix than in Kingdom Hearts Nascency past Slumber, the latter version identical to that of Terra's.
Trivia
- The but two people the Lingering Volition has e'er fought are Sora and Xehanort, the series' main protagonist and antagonist, respectively.

- The Lingering Volition is erroneously described equally "a man covered in armor" in Jiminy'southward Journal in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, although it is actually Terra's hollow armor.

- ↑ Nomura: Nosotros wanted to make information technology so that as many people could play together as possible, but in the end we could but do half dozen. Past the way, in the Kingdom Hearts Two Final Mix secret movie you tin can see Terra in his armor with a greatcoat, merely nosotros took off the cape in this game. It was to brand processing easier when you're playing with six people. Processing of moving textile can be wearisome, and so the speed information technology runs at is completely different if he has a greatcoat or not.
